Let’s Give back to nature
Our goal is to see Wilder Gardens everywhere.
The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world.
While large-scale habitat restoration is essential, our individual gardens, front verges, balconies—hold an untapped potential to create vital biodiversity stepping stones and refuelling stops for pollinators, birds, hedgehogs, amphibians, and more - creating corridors of life through our urban and rural communities.
No matter the size, shape, or style of your garden there’s always a little more we can do to support nature.
What do you want to see more of in your garden?
More birds?
More butterflies?
More bees?
More hedgehogs?
More flowers?
Whatever your desire to see more of, we ultimately need more nature!

Could you join a growing network of Neighbourhood Nature Reserves across the UK?
Each one of your Wilder Gardens could contribute to a Neighbourhood Nature Reserve.
To start a Neighbourhood Nature Reserve - simply connect with neighbours nearby who want Wilder Gardens.
Nature starts where you are.
Neighbourhood Nature Reserves recognise the crucial role that gardens, balconies, verges, shared green spaces—even window boxes—play in supporting biodiversity.
While closely related to Community Nature Reserves, we use the term Neighbourhood to reflect something slightly different: the idea that small, individual actions, taken at home and in the spaces between us, add up to something powerful when we act together.
This distinction helps highlight everyday places and people—whether you have a garden, share a courtyard, or tend a balcony—and invites you to see your contribution as part of a local patchwork that supports wildlife.
We’ve met so many people who care deeply about nature but feel unsure where to begin, or how to know if their individual efforts are making a difference. That’s why we’re sharing hyper-local data and small, achievable steps to help you make your space wilder with confidence.
Whether you’re in a cul-de-sac letting lawns grow, part of a housing estate planting ponds, or in a flat alive with pollinator-friendly plants, your space matters. By joining a Neighbourhood Nature Reserve, you’re not only helping wildlife—you’re helping nature be seen and valued in planning, policy, and placemaking.
Together, we can shape a more connected, wilder world, one garden at a time and Give back to nature.
You don’t have to work directly with neighbours to make a difference.
Every contribution counts. From a sunken washing-up bowl pond to a hole in a fence for hedgehogs, your garden can offer food, water, shelter, and passage.
By taking part, you:
Help connect fragmented habitats across streets and estates with Wilder Gardens
Receive a Garden Biodiversity Certificate (GBC) to mark your contribution
Inspire others to take small steps with big ecological value
Support a new culture of visible, local biodiversity action
Considered Care
Even a single corner left wild can become a haven for insects and small mammals. Neighbourhood Nature Reserves reward intentional, nature-positive choices—whether that’s planting native species, reducing mowing, or simply observing what grows when you let go.
The Garden Biodiversity Certificate (GBC)
Take our garden survey to discover your Wilder Gardens Garden Biodiversity Score and receive your certificate. Think of it as your garden’s version of an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)—but for nature. A high score might inspire neighbours. A lower one shows where small improvements can make a real difference.

Yes! Let’s make Wilder Gardens the new norm.
Yes! Let’s raise awareness: The more gardens we map and score with a Garden Biodiversity Certificate, the more undeniable the role of gardens becomes in local and national nature recovery. Your GBC shows your home is part of something bigger—and that biodiversity belongs in conversations about housing, planning, and community development.
Yes! Let’s nurture Wilder Gardens for, plants, animals and people. Nature-rich spaces improve well-being, reduce heat, and build a sense of pride and belonging.
Yes! Let’s start mapping what matters: Just as people search for homes with high EPC ratings, we imagine a future where buyers and renters consider the biodiversity potential of their surroundings too.
